What to do when you are fond of vivacious light shades, and yet stay at a good distance away from the reaches of those urban based commercial empires of IKEA and such? The solution is very simple: make your very own innovative lamp shades! Well, that is at least what industrial designer Samuel N. Bernier followed, and thus he concocted his line of Dentelle lamp shades crafted exclusively by 3D printing.
According to the designer, conventionally crafted lamp shades are either too expensive or unfortunately fall in the ugly category. On the other hand, the modernistic technology of 3D printing has advanced by leaps and bounds. In this regard, the designer tried out this low cost yet viable technology, and quite unsurprisingly the results were just as he wanted.
The affordable 3D printing method allowed him to conceive 12 different types of exquisite lamp shades, each with their unique color and texture. Their individual printing processes took from around 4 to 12 hours. However, the main advantage of the whole scope was its relative cheapness, with each individual lamp (weighing around 50g to 100g) costing less than $5 to print. And, as far as visuals are concerned, we just have an extended gallery for you to gleefully gawk at.
