Cherries look good, cherries taste succulent, and cherries are bothersome at best to eat. How so? Well, when using a bowl for eating the cherries, you also have spit out the stems and pits of the ones you put in your mouth.
The inherent juicy nature of the fruit expedites a sticky scenario where the spitted-out pits get slime all over the fresh cherries in the bowl. Fortunately, American designing student Erin Glaberson has a nifty little solution tailored to nibbling your favorite red fruit – the Cherry and Pit bowl, a dual container system for keeping the pits separate from the fresh specimens.
The dual system conception comprises of a container crafted from ceramic and a smaller bowl made of plastic. The two containers are supported by a singular arrangement of a holder, which can be made from a combination of soft and hard rubber. We are certainly enticed by the antithesis of the materials treatment, with the ceramic showcasing red-glazed ‘synthetic’ look, while the plastic is given a wooden finish.
Lastly, beyond aesthetics, there is also a bit of physics involved in the utensil assembly. To that end, the heaviness of the ceramic holds that container down for keeping the fresh cherries. The plastic bowl on the other hand is lifted – thus making it ergonomic to discard the pits from the consumed fruits.
