Do you remember mixing paint colors in class as kids? If you do you’ll recall when you mix two primary paint colors, red, and yellow and blue the outcome is secondary colors like green, purple, and orange. Now imagine your furniture at home replicating this phenomenon, without spilling colors around. The amazing media block chairs by TeamLab exhibited at the Digital Content Expo 2012 are exactly what we’re talking about. They consist of cube shaped multipurpose blocks that double as illuminating devices. These blocks can be joined together to make different furniture forms like tables, chairs, stools, and more.
Three side of each block protrude out, and the three sides have indents in them. When the protruding sides communicate with the indented sides, the colors of the blocks change. For example, if the protruding side of red block is brought in contact with the indented side of the blue block, the receiving block will turn purple. Similarly when you place the yellow block with blue, the outcome is green, and so forth and so on.
If users wish, they can use the blocks as such, without connecting them, and they will serve as simple illuminating devices. And, if you like to change the landscape of your living space every once awhile, you can connect these differently; play with different shapes, colors, and formats.
The piece of furniture definitely opens newer possibilities for creativity in the wake of simple features it combines. And, who knows in the future, a few more add ons would further boost their utility, like in-built music players, or remote controlled illumination and more.
