Cooking scales may have still not come under the radar of technological applications in most places of our world. However, the Japanese as always are one step ahead in the hi-tech field, which even stretches to the ‘ordinary’ scope of kitchen scales. This is pretty evident from Doritekku’s line of Digital Cooking Scales crafted from flat glass. Available in two models, with each of them exhibiting pristine thinness and wall mounting features, the advanced scales showcase their info via a back-lit LCD display.
The costliest model of the line is christened as ‘Fina KS-261’. In regard to its size and form, the product has dimensions of 240 × 120 × 18 mm (width × depth × depth), along with a low weight of just 433 g. Available in variant color schemes of white, blue and pink, the display contraption in itself is powered by energy efficient lithium coin cell batteries. Anyhow, the greatest feature of the Fina is its dual ability to measure the time along with the weight of the food stuff you are about to cook. For example, it correctly showcases the optimized time needed for boiling up to 2 kg of pasta. The price tag amounts to a figure of 4,000 yen (around $43).
The other model is named as the ‘Jelly KS-260’. This product has a slightly smaller length (albeit with greater thickness) of 180 × 124 x 33 mm. The capacity is same at 2 kg maximum, while the functionality entails a more conventional scope of just measuring the weight of the food to be cooked. In this regard, the display is juiced up by traditional AAA batteries, and the price is relegated to 3,000 yen (around $32).
