A few days ago, we talked about how edible food containers can reduce the trashing up of our favorite picnic spots. However, with the pressures of our modern day rat-race inspired lifestyle, who has the time to actually to an outdoor picnic party? Designer Luis Daniel Sanchez sympathizes with this practical predicament faced by us, and as a ‘solution’ he has created the Loma – a home picnic table with its special rug.
Similar in design to the traditional Chabudai (the Japanese short-legged table used for family dining), the striking element of the Loma is its very low height. This was done intentionally so as to improve upon the accessibility when eating food while sitting on a picnic style rug. Furthermore, the simple table is made from fine wood sections, and hence it doesn’t require screws when needed to be assembled (by hand).
The other part of the Loma furniture set entails a small rug that sort of replicates the green grass on park lawns. Beyond visuals, there is a conscientious side to its manufacturing process, with the woolen floor cover being made by the local craftsmen from the poor mountain towns of Querétaro, Mexico.
