Originally marked for the servants, the Ottoman style 19th century unit has been given a subtle makeover. The purpose of the redesigning and the makeover was to retain the old style and finesse and make it modern in its utility.
Atelye70 were the designers that were chosen to carry out this unique redesigning project. The apartment on top of a palace was the dwelling for servants, but had walls decorated with frescoes. The architects restored them to their glory by removing the white plaster from the walls and allowed the walls to look natural.
The original wooden floors were retained in order to maintain the period look. The designers removed the false ceiling to expose the original support beams in wood. This move made the space look more retro and allowed more natural light to come in.
Atelye70 hold a solid reputation for renovating historic structures to their yesteryear glory. The structure was originally designed by Guglielmo Semprini. Atelye70 made it a point to maintain the integrity of the structure while making it comfortable and efficient with modern additions. Although the designers did not touch the original flooring, the roof was re done completely. The used natural wood, granite in dark and white hues to create a neutral palette that stands true to the original intention of the property.
In the bedrooms too the frescos remained untouched, instead closets with sliding doors were introduced to maintain the look and utilize the space to the maximum.
Designers who can understand the essence of a place and control their temptations to change it according to their whims and fantasies are rare. Atelye70 have done a great job of restoring the Gabriel apartment to its old glory and making it more efficient at the same time.
