Architecture as a progressive discipline evolving from art and science, has always been dominated by humans. However this time around, we have come across a living space created for humans, but created by a cow! The brainchild of Ensamble Studio, the eccentric project is christened as The Truffle, and is envisaged as a compact holiday home in Spain.
As we can make out from the images, the habitable space comprises of a hollowed out cavity from a seemingly rough-hewed concrete mass. For this unique embodiment, the designers had to arrange stacks of hay bales, and then pour concrete over the assembly. The composition was left to be hardened, and then cut opened to make way for the inner soft layer of the hay.
And that is where our animal architect came into the picture. A cow named Paulina was given free reign to munch through this core layer of hay, thus gradually laying bare the internal cavity we see in the images. The whimsical process took place over the course of a year, and the end result was the revelation of a snug interior space perfect for privacy-oriented habitation.
And, for those are surprised by this odd architectural consideration, do give a gawk at the video of Pauline (below) showing her creative credentials.
