Philippe Nigro is known all over the world for his bold and unorthodox designs. We know him for the almost outlandish Floating Sofa, the very handsome Flax Armchair and also the extremely clever Twin-Chairs. At Cologne 2014, the French designer presented his latest brainchild, a plump and curvaceous sofa for the French furniture brand Ligne Roset, called Cosse Sofa.
Cosse Sofa is a heavily cushioned, upholstered sofa with gently sloping, round edges like that of a bar of soap. With optimizing comfort as his main aim, Philippe Nigro has created a sofa marked by its soft undulations that wraps snugly around the sitter.
The settee consists of fluffy armrests that gradually connect to a high, slightly rounded back panel, without producing any sharp corners. Polyurethane Foam is used to create the soft, comfy body of the sofa. An intricate setting of web suspension further increases the comfort level of the cushion.
The sofa rests on a simple, minimalist rectangular framework built with wooden battens. A soldered steel skeleton provides greater support. The slender, minimal base, in contrast to the over-sized upper part, seems to give the impression that the sofa is floating above the ground.
The sofa can be upholstered with a fabric of your choice, while the wooden framework is in natural or anthracite-stained solid beech. Each settee is provided with a matching footstool, thus completing the sofa set. It comes in two sizes, medium and large. With its unadulterated style, the voluptuous Cosse Sofa exemplifies the intermingling of intemperate elegance and comfort.
