A lamp fused inside a post modernist sculpture – this in a nutshell defines the abstractly elegant Woodspot, a handcrafted design by Alessandro Zambelli for Selleti (the very same company that brought us the card-shaped A La Carte tables). As the name very clearly suggests, the lamp shades are crafted from stylized wooden components that form an integral part of the art statement highlighted by the design collection.
Originally inspired by “The Empire of Light” series of oil on canvas paintings by René Magritte, the symbolism behind Woodspot lies in its attention to the source of light. In other words, the stylish yet abstract assembly gives way to an unhindered path to the inside bulb, thus transforming the light into the central focus of power and beauty.
In many ways the arrangement of the Woodspot rather complements this expansive light path. The rear-side of the lamp is supported by a slightly angled vertical member (emerging like the A shape), while the bottom edge of the front facade meets the ‘ground level’ for additional balance. This structural layout leaves adequate space for the light beam to emanate and diffuse around the micro-area inside the room.
