In some parts of the world, Nestle’s Maggi instant noodles packages come with the tagline of ‘just 2 minutes’ – which is certainly in tune with the rapid-fire, rat-race lifestyles prevalent in most urban communities. And, why should the ambit of ‘quickness’ be only limited to food stuff? Well worry not – home-decor overlord Ikea is now touting its brand new line of Regissör furniture items that can be set up in 5 minutes!
Suffice it to say, quick installation modular furniture systems have never been Ikea’s forte. But this time around, the renowned designers have incorporated quite a few attributes that might just make Regissör a success in the realm of customized furniture. To that end, each component of the collection boasts of a wedge-shaped form at its end that facilitates its support on another component at a 45 degrees angle – thus creating a more sturdy, self-corroborative structure (see this post).
Furthermore, the components are kept hollow with a latticed framework on the inside, which keeps the entire furniture system lightweight while lessening the stress from the joints. And on top of that – the designers have opted for pre-installed wooden dowels, instead of regular screw-and-lock mechanisms – which certainly makes the job of assembling (for the user) that much easier.
Of course, this simple direction with straightforward modules might have its effect on the overall durability of the furniture. But still considering the innumerable apartment-dwellers’ woes pertaining to complex installation systems, we would say the tool-free Regissör (with its Ikea pedigree) is god-send for the brand-conscious among us.
Pricing starts from $149, while the collection comprises of a bookshelf, cabinets, and coffee table.
